'Be your own boss' is about prioritizing on your clients' needs, being confident of your products (and services), and deliver on the promised values.
You can be your own boss in a job (or you can start your own business), but the process is the same, i.e., to identify the needs, propose the solution (e.g., your competencies, skills, idea, knowledge, and network), market to the right people (e.g., your boss, your organization, your colleagues), and deliver as promised (to achieve personal branding).
People encounter pains, i.e., one-time, acute, or chronic pains. Chronic pains are the ones that we need solutions and if the type is widespread, there is a market for the solution. If we can create value for the solution that addresses people's pain, that is a good product/service.
